Dog Grooming Training Courses Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need any experience before I start the course?

There is no need for any previous experience with dogs. All that is needed is a willingness to learn, a love of hard work and a good sense of fun!

Do I need to bring a dog to groom?

I will supply all the dogs that you need to groom, but if you would like to bring a dog on the one day course in order to learn how to groom them, then that's fine. Just let us know in advance.

Do I have to do a 5 Day Bronze Course:?

The course is structured to suit the individual. Whilst we can take students who wish to do a One Day Course, we recommend that you have at least five days in a row as this helps with memory and flow if you are going to be thinking of a business in dog grooming.

When do the courses run?

The courses run throughout the year click here to view courses and dates. dg2

Do I need to bring any equipment or anything with me?

If you wish to bring your own, then please do, but it must be up to grooming standards. We have all types of equipment here for you to use, this will help you make your personal choices on what equipment is right for you. I must point out that dropping equipment (i.e. scissors and blades) renders them useless. PLEASE take great care with all the training schools equipment. You may be asked to replace items due to poor management.

Will I be grooming dogs myself during the course?

Yes, depending on which course you may be grooming 1-2 dogs possibly, but this is flexible. This is with a view to completing the grooming process from start to finish.

Will I have learnt enough during the course to set up my own business?

On the 30 day course you will learn all the main styles and will have had enough experience with clipping, scissoring and hand stripping to feel confident enough to go it alone. Plus we are only a phone call away if you are feeling a bit unsure and need some reassurance. You will not be qualified in City & Guilds as a professional. Long term, your practical skills will give you the experience to work towards becoming a professional. Please ask for further details while on the course.

How do I make payment?

The One Day course is payable on the day you book. The remaining courses, a 20% deposit, (non refundable), will be required to ensure that your place is reserved for you. The remaining cost of your course is payable 20 days prior to the start date.

Do you have any accommodation?

Give me a call and I will put you in contact with a local Bed & Breakfast or hotel, alternatively visit www.visitwestberkshire.org.uk/placestostay for more information.

What should I wear?

I recommend that you wear jeans or light trousers, comfortable trainers and a
grooming top, no jewellery and hair tied back. It is not advisable to wear Contact Lenses.
